Teens and the Acai Berry

April 14th 2009

What do you do if your teenage daughter or son comes to you and says they want to start taking an acai berry product or eating frozen acai berries? You may be pleased that they would like to use a product that has so many health benefits. After all, acai berries and acai berry extract contains fibre, vitamins, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and a high level of antioxidants. However, is an acai berry product right for a teen? Does it completely replace a good multivitamin?

While many teen girls may want to take an acai berry product for its weight loss benefits, the truth is that they will greatly benefit from the many vitamins and nutritional supplements present in the berry. However, that doesn’t mean that they should stop taking a multivitamin. Good multivitamins contain more vitamins than the acai berry does, so it’s important for teens to take them. It’s also important to discuss the effects of an acai berry product on the teen body with a doctor before your teen begins using the product. Teens will find their bodies are rapidly changing, and taking the acai berry may not be the best thing for them.
