But I never knew we get something like this, here in India.

This has _got_ to be the ugliest looking ( and tasting ) soup I have ever seen in reality.

Take a look at it on my Flickr page.

Preshit http://www.preshit.net <![CDATA[Dirty little Windows Trick]]> http://www.acchablog.com/2007/10/22/dirty-little-windows-trick/ 2007-10-23T15:26:06Z 2007-10-22T11:49:28Z We all have friends. We all love to play pranks. But very few of us actually play pranks on our friends. Here’s a nifty little Windows trick that could easily land people in trouble.

What this trick basically does is, when a person tries to access any particular site via the browser, the browser will instead show up a website specified by you. Say your friend is a frequent visitor to orkut.com. You can very well do some magic so that instead of orkut.com, xxx.com opens up ( No, not xxx.com, I just mean any x site. :D )

This is really a great trick to do in the college/school labs, friends PC or even trick your family. Be careful where you are redirecting users to :P

Requirements:

  1. Windows Administrator privileges
  2. IP of the site you want to redirect the people to
  3. Notepad

First, goto Start >> Run and type in cmd and press enter. In the command prompt, type ping domain.com where domain.com is the site you wanna redirect people too. For eg: google.com or simply use 64.22.110.209

Note down the IP address.

Now, open Notepad and click on File >> Open and navigate to the following path

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

and open the file name hosts

Now, add the following line at the end of the file.

64.22.110.209 orkut.com

( Replace the IP with any IP you like and the domain with any domain you want )

Save the file and exit.

Restart your browser.

( A lot of my readers already knew about it. I knew too. Its just for those who didn’t :| )

[Update]

I forgot to mention that this can also be used to block access to a certain website.

Just add the following line, instead of the one above..

127.0.0.1 sitename.com

I raised a support ticket with them around a week back. They are “still looking into the issue”.

How hard is it to enable a domain for sign up ?

[Update]

.. but loves me. Yea :) They finally approved my domain name and I’m now using Google Apps :)

And since we have our house under renovation and Diwali is round the corner, my parents thought we should check it out for some ideas.

We took a rick and reached the place only to realize that it closes for the day @ 7 PM. What the.. ? 7PM is when everyone hops out. Come on. You must be kidding me. Oh well :|

So we had to head back home, empty handed. But we did stop over at McDonalds for a quick-eat-stop. See it on flickr

Preshit http://www.preshit.net <![CDATA[Apps for my Nokia E50]]> http://www.acchablog.com/2007/10/13/apps-for-my-nokia-e50/ 2007-10-13T06:54:19Z 2007-10-13T06:54:19Z After the recent tragedy, I had absolutely no access to internet on my phone. I just couldn’t afford paying 450/month for GPRS and neither did it make any sense paying such a HUGE amount. So, I had deleted all the applications that I had installed ( after a lot of searching and finding ).

However, a few days back, maybe the Gods were impressed by something, that they gave me the thought to buy myself a new number ( reasons for which are a totally different story. I bought a new Airtel number, and along with it, I was offered a totally fantabulous GPRS package ( 99/month for unlimited data access on a postpaid connection ). With this, I had good access to internet and so I began to look for some really interesting and useful applications for my activites. Unbelievable as it may sound, I _need_ to have access to my Gmail Inbox atleast every 30 minutes ( Yes, I get more than 75 emails a day ), so I was specifically looking for applications that would help me do the following.

  • Read my Gmail Inbox
  • Let me chat with my Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk and Skype contacts
  • Push Email ( if possible )
  • Web content uploader ( to services like Youtube, flickr etc )
  • other, if useful.

Now, let me begin describing what I have on my phone now.
